Hawaii Five-0 Episode 1.03 "Malama Ka Aina"

Loved this episode. Loved it. We got a bit of Chin Ho's back story, and we learn why they call themselves the "5-0". There's more Steve and Danny banter and they dress Kono up hotly again. So lets talk about 'Malama Ka Aina' or 'Respect the Land' in English.

It begins at a high school football game that they are all attending and they meet Danny's daughter Grace. While getting some nacho's for the team, Danny spies some suspicious shit and leaves Grace in the bathroom. He calls Steve and the team make their way to the sidelines ready to handle whatever's about to go down. A player gets shot and then after a minor shootout, Chin down chases a perp on foot. When he catches up, he finds out it's his cousin, who appears to be with the bad guys of the episode.

Chin and Kono's cousin is the big fucker.

Sid, the big fucker, is undercover with the Samoan gang and this is where the plot kicks in. He's pissed at Chin for allegedly being a dirty cop and won't co-operate unless it's with Lt. Steve McGarrett and Det. Danny Williams of Governor Jameson's new unnamed task force. He doesn't trust Jin from Lost at all, despite being family.

Cool as a motherfucker.

By the way, Sid is undercover in the Samoan gang which explains some of his hostility towards Chin. He has been away from his family for ages and blames Chin for his perceived lack of credibility as a police officer, some of the fallout of Chin's apparent misdeeds. After a pretty unconventional torture scene and an exchange between Kono and Sid, the team goes undercover at an underground casino, minus Chin, with Kono posing as a card dealer and Steve and Danny posing as high rollers, which Sid organised.

Sneaky bastards.

Throw in a sub-plot about character stuff like Danny fighting to share custody of Grace and we have a great episode. I love all the action in the series but if we don't have character development, who gives a fuck, right? Scott Caan really deserved his Golden Globe nomination and hopefully next season, he can bring home the gold. Also, wouldn't it be cool if his old man James, played his dad in an episode. He really nailed the mob/CIA guy in Las Vegas didn't he?
