You may or may not have seen this film starring Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim but I recommend you do as soon as you get the chance. It's a highly visual and original story that also has a rockin' soundtrack. Being based on a band and all, it tells the story of Scott Pilgrim as he tries to win Ramona Flowers affections but for some reason, has to fight her seven evil exes to do so.
You see Scott plays in a band with his friends, has a girlfriend named Knives and lives with his gay roommate and Spoiler Alert, all that has changed by the end. It's also based on an I can only assume is awesome comic book.
It starts with the Universal logo in the style of a retro video game and that pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the movie. It's very dry and sarcastic which is what Cera does best.
It also helps that he's funny looking.
What's nice and fun about the flick is that it plays like a live action comic book, and moreso that Sin City it seems. Things seem to fly of the screen but not so much that kids will have fits like that fucking Pokemon thing, and the fight scenes and musical scenes kick along whilst also moving the story forward.
Edgar Wright of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, hits another, albeit, not quite as successful, winner here and like Fight Club, will find its audience on DVD and Blu Ray after not making as much in the theatre's as was expected. That's also where I seem to find a lot of my favourite moves. This one is not exception.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers.
Onto Ramona. Once she enters the scene, Scott doesn't seem to think of anything else and this is where some of the more surreal shit happens. It's no wonder he can't think of anything else because I mean look at her, she's effing gorgeous.
No idea who the first Evil Ex is but he comes and goes and then that's when we meet some of the bigger actors in the production. I'd usually say they were underused but we move along at such a good pace that the Former Superman and upcoming Captain America's extended cameo's are among the highlights of the whole awesomely fucked up adventure.
Superman: The Vegetarian
There's also a subplot with Scott's ex who is now in a famous band and lets face it, all the chicks in this movie are hot. As fuck. I'm surprised there's not a porn parody of it yet.
Mae Whitman plays one of the Ramona's evil ex's. Maybe it should be a porn parody prequel?
