Remembering Las Vegas

Fuck, this show rocked. You had action and romance and no need to take any of it seriously. Except for the ending that was not supposed to be the ending. After almost 5 complete seasons Las Vegas ended with a cliffhanger in the middle of what was to be a two-parter, as a result of that motherfucking writers strike. I like when a show gets to end on its own terms as it may have had the chance had it shot the last four of five eps that were being written. But NBC said 'no thanks' and to this day, we still have no idea what the hell happened.

When we first meet Danny McCoy, he's chock-a-block up Delinda Deline, the daughter of Big Ed, Danny's boss. Ed used to be a spook and throws around the godfather act like he invented it, needless to say, he's not exactly happy when he finds Danny with his beloved daughter. In a scene where Danny chugs some wine, Ed welcomes him to the family. If you watched Las Vegas earlier on, you know that Ed doesn't take things like his daughter sleeping with whomever she likes lightly.

Season 3 = stupid beard.

You see, Danny is an ex-marine. So he knows some shit too, and Ed and Danny have merry adventures together, looking after the fictional casino, the Monticito for the first four seasons. Along for the ride are Delinda, Mike Cannon, Sam Marquez, Mary Connell, Nessa Holt and A.J. Cooper.

Nessa left at the end of season 2, because Ed had been lying to her about her father since she was a kid and we never saw her again. Ed left at the end of season 4 because Mr. Caan wanted to get back into features and we only had one season of A.J. Cooper running the casino. He was also an ex-military type.

Molly Sims in her undies, in case I was losing you.

This is the type of show that I love best. It doesn't require you to watch every week, it has hot chickies all over the place, it has action and suspense and it's set in a small town that no-ones ever heard of. It also had a good bunch of laughs and guest stars galore. Jean Claude Van Damme played himself in an episode and he fucking died. True, he fell off of the top of the Monticito in a stunt gone wrong. Alec Baldwin and Sylvester Stallone also played people from Ed's CIA past and these roles somewhat helped with their comebacks. For some reason, Paris Hilton also showed up, what a great actress she is, huh?

They had an average looking cast though.

So in the end, I'd like to know what happened but oh well, we got a hell of a lot more out of this show than some of the other shows that get the flick, like this one. It was just disappointing that it was a casualty of that strike and they couldn't pick it it for half a season at least. But anyway, life goes on.
