Thor's A Great Ride

After Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2, I was not sure how the fantastical elements to the story of Marvel's Thor would fit in with the already established believability of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I'm not that sure that it does yet, we'll have to wait for The Avengers, I suppose. In saying that, Thor by itself is better than The Incredible Hulk, not as good as Iron Man and only slightly better than Iron Man 2, meaning it's awesome in it's own right.

The film has made over 416 million so far and we eagerly await Captain America: The First Avenger before the event of The Avengers in 2012.

And Natalie Portman's in it. Fuck yes.

Thor works as it's own movie without the other ones which is good, because people like different things and that's fine with me. All I can tell you is that I enjoyed it and you can make up your own fucking mind. But fans of the other three flicks will probably like it. Another thing is that it whets the appetite for the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger and the thing thats been causing geek hard ons everywhere, Joss Whedon's The Avengers, the latter of which has a scene at the end of the credits in this adventure.

Major spoiler for The Avengers. Sorry folks.

All that being said, Thor stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane, Sir Anthony Hopkins as Thor's old man, Renee Ruse pops up as Thor's mum, Tom Hiddleston plays his dick brother Loki, Stellan Skarsgard, Kat Dennings and Idris Elba all have supporting roles and Clark Gregg turns up as Agent Coulson from the Iron Man flicks. There's also a quick cameo from one of the stars of the upcoming Avengers but you wouldn't notice if you didn't know it. I'll just say the actor in question played Penn in an episode of Angel, so if that makes any difference, good luck to ya.

Naw, that's nice.

The love story of the film kind of goes unnoticed until somewhere near the end and a few cliche's are chucked in but otherwise just have fun with it. It's a movie with magic in it. I don't think anyone thought they were making a documentary, unlike whoever the hell made Ghost Rider.
