The giant Marvel project kicked off with this ripper of a movie in 2008. Starring Robert Downey Jr. in his first Blockbuster film and directed by Jon Favreau, this entertaining romp made 585 million worldwide paving the way for more Marvel entries.
With a third Iron Man film in development at Disney, I'll go back a couple of years to the year of the Superhero movie. Iron Man and The Dark Knight were for me, the best two films of 2008. Marvel's biggest film franchises until this point were Spiderman and X-Men, the former of which is for some reason already being rebooted and the other which now has five films in the can with about a million more on the way.
They all have this angry prick in 'em too. X-Men: First Class spoiler.
Anyhow, Iron Man recounts how Tony Stark went from being a genius who basically only wants to get his dick wet, to someone who realises that his weapons bring death and destruction in war, and wants to stop that. So how does he do it? He invents a suit of armour that is also a fuck off awesome weapon capable of death and destruction and gets the fuck outta dodge. Dodge being Afghanistan. After beating his captors to a pulp, he sets off on his mission of peace.

With help from Terrance Howard's James Rhodes, Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts, Paul Bettany's JARVIS and even Jon Favreau's Happy Logan, Tony Stark wages war on his own company which is all terribly exciting and dramatic, with a few laughs thrown in, we have a great time getting to know Iron Man and his origins which I think is pretty faithful to the source material but I'm not really sure, I've only read a couple of issues which is not enough to catch with, I reckon.
With Thor having just come out and Captain America: The First Avenger and Joss Whedon's The Avengers to be released before Iron Man 3, we have plenty to look forward to before Tony Stark's next solo outing. And I look forward to it greatly with Iron Man 2 also being a ripper of a flick. But I'll review The Incredible Hulk next, to keep the flow going.
Why do they have gloves on?
