Episodes Concludes Its First Season

Matt LeBlanc is back on telly. As himself. And he's an absolute prick. It's kind of wonderful.

Episodes has Matt essentially playing Joey again. It also has Stephen Mangan as Sean and Tamsin Greig as Beverly (both from Green Wing. A show on Channel 4 which I have not seen) playing a couple from England adapting their award winning series for an American audience. Needless to say the network completely fucks their show and they still have to work on it.

The first thing that happens is they have to cast Matt LeBlanc. Beverly hates this but Sean warms to it and Matt and Sean become best friends. Something else Beverly hates. This plays out over the only 7 (fucking 7?) episodes of the season. There should be more but it works. So I shrug.

Some notes from the season:

Matt has a giant wang.

Sean has a wank over one of the stars.

Beverly is a bitch.

That's all I can say without getting all spoilery.

Pictured: Matt about to flop it out.

The basic premise is that Matt is still riding on his post-Friends train and gets whatever the fuck he wants. He doesn't care. The fictional Matt LeBlanc is more complex than that but if you watch it, you'll find that out. And you should. Because it is a very funny and clever show. It's not a laugh a minute but who gives a fuck? It's also a bit dramatic, which really works in its favour. If it just went for cheap laughs all the time it would be a piece of shit.

The couple goes through a lot of shit to get this show made including a star whose a pain in Beverly's arse and a bunch of network executive's who seem to not know a fuckin' thing. This comes from one of the guy's behind Friends and another guy who wrote for Mad About You and have since had a few shows cancelled on network television in the states, this is on Showtime, so they may have drawn from those experiences.

Clearly.
