Counting Down To The End of Smallville

Its the last season of Smallville and there's only 8 episodes to go. This show has been great since it's first season but like every show, has had it's shitty episodes. It's also had it's awesome ones which in my opinion, since Season 6, have been happening a lot more often.

Smallville started in 2001 on the WB with a young Clark Kent figuring out he had strange abilities and in love with Lana Lang, who at the time was dating whatsisface, Whitney, a football player for Smallville High. Clark's friends included Pete Ross and Chloe Sullivan. Chloe having been an original character not appearing in any Superman comics before. Also, during the pilot episode, a young Lex Luthor runs into Clark on a bridge and Clark saves his life, leading to an obsession with Clark that would ultimately fuck up the close friendship they once had and tear Clark and Lana apart forever.

Before you cry and say that I'm telling you what happens if you have never watched and thought you might, you fucking well know that Clark Kent and Lois Lane are going to eventually marry, that's just part of Superman lore.

Season 1 brought us episodes like X-Ray, Hourglass, Kenetic, Obscura and Tempest. It also included crap like Craving and Drone. It introduced us to major characters Lionel Luthor, and minor ones like Eric Summers and Ryan James, the latter of whom Clark would come to think of as a little brother.

Season 2 got rid of Whitney and added Lionel Luthor to the main cast, and kicked of with Vortex, which continued directly from the Season 1 finale. This season we got Heat, Ryan, Skinwalker and Exodus, with your bullshit episodes as well. Christopher Reeve made an appearance this season as Dr. Virgil Swann, and fanboys cracked mad hard boners for weeks from before the episode aired until way after. Reeve having played Superman in the Richard Donner films and the ones after.

Season 3 started with Clark in touch with his inner crim in Exile and Phoenix, which was just about the highlight of the season. Here we got the aforementioned Exile and Phoenix, along with Relic, Obsession and Legacy. It also included the shitty Velocity. More Superman characters would appear this year with Maggie Sawyer, Morgan Edge and more importantly, Perry White.

Lois Lane enters the Smallville universe in Season 4 and to begin with, Clark and Lois have more of a brother/sister relationship as they both find each other irritating but are ultimately friends. Lois comes to Smallville to find out what happened to her cousin, Chloe Sullivan, who it appears has been blown up by Lionel. This year we saw Clark playing football and running into Bart Allen and also meeting Lois's sister, Lucy Lane along with Lex's growing obsession with Clark.

Season 5 lost Clark's powers and viginity, celebrated 100 episodes with Reckoning, met Arthur Curry and Victor Stone and suffered the loss of someone close when his father has a heart attack after a confrontation with Lionel Luthor. Lana and Lex grow closer and Lex gets possessed by Zod, who is a complete bastard.

Season 9: Shithead and Clark

Season 6 kicked off with Zod, fucking shit up and we meet fake Jimmy Olsen who we know from earlier seasons that he had a fling with Chloe at the Daily Planet. This is the season where the show became more like the one we watch today with darker and edgier storylines taking centre stage and the action shifting from Smallville to Metropolis for the most part. We meet Oliver Queen in Arrow and Bizarro in Phantom. Lex embraces his villainy, tricks Lana into believing she is preggers and by this stage his friendship with Clark is long-fucked. One of the highlights this season is Lexmas, where Lex comes to a crossroads and in a coma, sees his life as it could be if he chooses the right route.

We say goodbye to Oliver for the majority of this season, being Season 7 and hello to Kara Kent, Clark's cousin from Krypton. And Supergirl. Laura Vandervoort is quite hot and it's disappointing that this is the only full season to feature her. Nonetheless at the end of this season most of the cast leaves and the show completely becomes what it is now, with Lionel dead by the Lex half way through the season, Lex going missing and Lana and Kara leaving. We did get to see Pete again though, and met the Black Canary.

Season 8 has Clark getting a job at the Daily Planet and getting closer to Lois, until Lana returns and fucks it up for everybody, but she was cleverly written out of the show for good. She was quite annoying there in her last couple of seasons. But anyhow, Oliver comes back to stay and new characters include Tess Mercer who now runs Lex's empire and has a past with Oliver, and Davis Bloome, a paramedic who turns out to be Doomsday and spoils the party for Chloe and not-Jimmy, but giving not-Jimmy a heroic exit.

Season 9 saw the introduction of Major Zod, pictured above as shithead, and finally, Clark and Lois getting together for realsies. The highlight this season is probably the telemovie, Absolute Justice, although it's not really the best episode, it really delves into past heroes and their struggles and introduces us to the Justice Society with the remaining members eventually teaming up with our own Justice League. We also get a ripper of a finale with Clark seemingly falling to his death after saving the world from Zod and impaled with power stripping blue Krytonite.

Now we get to the 10th and final season. Picking up right after Season 9, Lois finds Clark and pulls out the blue crap, learning his true identity but not telling him. Chloe sacrifices herself for Oliver against the Suicide Squad, Tess joins the Justice League, a shit-ton of characters return and Hawkman dies. The last episode to air was Masquerade which saw Clark don the glasses and adjust his mannerisms which brings him that one step closer to his destiny. I can't wait to see how things play out but one things for sure, it'll want to be more answer-rich than LOST.

I hope that fucker flies.
